COSHH Awareness/Chemical Handling





The COSHH Awareness/Chemical Handling Regulations are designed to protect people against risks to their health when dealing with or being exposed to hazardous substances. The COSHH training course is designed for candidates who handle chemicals as part of their daily work. The COSHH course is ideal for induction or refresher training to the new regulations. Attendees of this COSHH training course will gain under-pinning knowledge of the below issues and therefore will be able to implement this in their specific work area.


On completion of the course, the delegates will:

  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of the COSHH regulations
  • Understand & apply legislation – the law
  • Understand what is a hazardous substance
  • Identify hazardous substances
  • Control exposure to a hazardous substance
  • Deal with emergencies

Course Competency Assessment

The COSHH training course is delivered between 4-6 hours and Candidates must demonstrate a willingness to learn along with interaction of group activities.


  • Awareness of the COSHH regulations
  • Understanding of responsibilities for employer and employee for compliance with COSHH regulations
  • Understanding of responsibilities within company arrangements for COSHH
  • Understanding the term hazardous substance
  • Identification of hazardous substances covering classification labeling & packaging (CLP regulations) & material safety data sheets (MSDS)
  • Control exposure to a hazardous substance
    • Hierarchy of control
    • Safe systems of work (SSOW)
    • COSHH & risk assessment
    • PPE
  • Procedural requirements for emergencies & first aid
